Raving into Old Age with Ariel Zetina

Ariel Zetina is a Chicago based DJ.

Golden Egg: Do you think about getting older, and what you'd like your life to look like?

Ariel Zetina: Honestly I want to keep performing to some extent forever, but my hope is that I am working as a musician and writer in a way that does not involve extremely late nights. While I will always DJ a rave into my old age, there is so much I want to do in art and I am always excited by diversifying my practice.

GE:  Do you want to retire, or keep playing music for your whole life, or some combination of both?

AZ: I think for me retirement looks like listening to my body first and foremost, so while I would love to continue playing every kind of gig, I know that is not necessarily realistic. So time will tell I guess.

GE: Have you planned (financially or otherwise) for retirement or ageing?

AZ: A bit! Ever since starting a small business for my art practice, I have been more on top of my savings for retirement (mostly just by opening a Roth IRA). I also use earplugs all the time because I have had to protect my ears at venues in order to make sure my hearing stays with me.

GE: Is/are there musician(s) who's lifestyle you'd like to emulate as you age (these artists can be younger, older, or the same age as you)

AZ: Madonna? Demi Moore? IDK they both are rich and look great.

GE: Who are some of your favorite artists over 65, or a favorite album of theirs?

AZ: Beverly Glenn Copeland!
